It's finally over and as the dust settles and the smoke clears the United Kingdom has it's new Government, a coalition Government consisting of the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats. The new Prime Minister David Cameron has already moved into Ten Downing Street and held his first phone call conversation with American President Barack Obama who called to congratulate him within an hour of taking office.
German Chancellor Merkal has also phoned the PM to offer her congratulations and invite Cameron to Berlin at the earliest opportunity, Cameron's Downing Street office have confirmed. French President Sarkozy has offered his hearty congratulations to David Cameron on his appointment to the post of British Prime Minister, a statement from the Elysee Palace has revealed.
It has also been rumoured that Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg will be appointed to the role of Deputy Prime Minister as part of the pact between the two parties. The departing Prime Minister Gordon Brown has walked out of Ten Downing Street with his wife and two children after thirteen years in Government. Speaking outside Number Ten he said " I wish the next Prime Minister well as he makes the important choices for the future."
Mr. Brown added "Above all it was a privilege to serve. And yes, I loved the job."
He finished his speech saying "As I leave the second most important job I could ever hold, I cherish even more the first- as a husband and father. Thank you and goodbye."
Thankfully this has now been put to bed as politics is not my favourite subject but I feel that it is important for people my age group to discuss it, hopefully I didn't bore you guys to much.

ReplyDeleteYup, Cameron is now the PM and lets hope that his party and assorted Lib Dems actually listen to the people that put them there, ie the electorate and british public. I will hold my breath and see how it all flies. I think its a disgraceful day for Britain that brown even thought of trying to cobble together a coalition, listening to advisors who have absolutely no right to influence anything. Says a lot for the political system of governance, in that its obvious that they dont listen.
